Grade 2 listed Clerkenwell Fire Station closed in January 2014. At the Amwell Societyís instigation, the building has been declared as Asset of Community Value, a designation introduced in the Localism Act 2011. This is designed to ensure that if such a building is put up for sale, then the local community has time to put in a prior bid for the building. The fire station is a large building with 4 floors of apartments above the fire hall and offices, and with considerable on-site development potential.
