The Amwell Society supports the plan for the House of Illustration to relocate to a site at the New River Head.
The plans for transformation of the unconverted buildings on the land between Amwell Street and Myddelton passage were developed by Tim Ronalds Architects, a well known local firm.
This regeneration would see the old Engine House renewed as a gallery and exhibition space, with education and administration housed in the refurbished north stores. The plan below gives an idea of how the buildings will be used.

Tim Ronalds presented the scheme at the Amwell Society AGM on 20th October.
He stressed the importance of landscaping the area and providing a pedestrian through route from the gate on Amwell street to the viewing platform in Myddelton passage. A water feature on the site boundary will be a reminder of the historic role of the site in the provision of clean water to the people of central London.
The images below give an impression of what the site might look like when completed.
